Someone should care, maybe not you....

My thoughts on many things including the army, war, politics, the military corrections system, chaos, life, books, movies, and why there is no blue food. Feel free to comment on what I say. Feedback is nice.

Thoughts on "Moslem culture"

I went to eat tonight with my family at a restaurant in Savannah Georgia called The Casbah, a Moroccan restaurant. The food is excellent, if you find yourself in Savannah go and give it a try.
But the point to this is in relation to the prevailing myth of some sort of universal "Moslem Culture". As I was sitting in the restaurant watching the belly dancer I couldn't help but wonder what reaction the bearded Warlords and Mullahs of Afghanistan would have to seeing that? Belly dancing certainly doesn't fit into the now common perception of how Moslems think does it?

"Shereee don't like it/Rock The Casbah rocking The Casbah" Belly Dancers are just so cool.
Yet, true. I sat through a Culture Breif a couple of months ago and is mentioned. The Intell Guy explained it as a something for the Elite. Something that would be seen at Abu Dhabi and that she would be considered on the level of Strippers or prostiutes as for social class. Personaly, I think it's beautiful.
Merry Christmas

Nice blog you got here. I got here through Elizabeth's.

For the record, my belly dancing instructor is Israeli. I'm sure that would probably get someone's panties all in a ruffle.

Santa Barbara has a nice Moroccan restaurant. First, you sit down. I don't remember if you take your shoes off or not. Then they come by and wash your hands.

The meal is multi-course, and it's wonderful. After the meal, a belly dancer comes by. You'll be looked at cowardly if you don't at least join in for a bit. Great time. I think it was $25 or $30 a person, and worth every penny for the experience.
